Baglung Scenery

Baglung (28.27 N, 83.60 E, elev. 1020 m.) lies in the midhills of Nepal, 275 km West of Kathmandu. Baglung is the district headquarters of Baglung District and is also the zonal headquarters of Dhawalagiri Zone.

Located in the middle hills on the west of Pokhara, Baglung is the headquarters of Dhaulagiri Zone. It is situated on a terrace overlooking the Kali Gandaki river which is famous for deep gorges and notorious bends. Inhabited by different ethnic groups, Baglung offers the most scenic view of Mount Dhaulagiri towards its north. It has recently been connected to Pokhara by a 72 km black-topped highway. On the way to Baglung, you can enjoy the picturesque view of the incredibly long range of Annapurna Himal towards north. Baglung is also a good starting point for Dhorpatan Hunting Reserve where controlled hunting of some species is allowed. The trek from Baglung Bazaar to Dhorpatan takes about four days.

Baglung RoadThe town also known as Baglung Bazar is situated on a plateau overlooking the Kali Gandaki valley. It has been a quaint trading town since ancient times frequented by traders from north and south. More recently, it is visited by tourists seeking to trek to Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, Dhorpatan and Dolpo. Baglung is connected to Beni Bazar of Myagdi to the north and Kusma Bazar of Parbat which are located 13 km to the north and 12 km to the south, respectively. A well-paved but winding highway connects the town with Pokhara, 72 km to the east. Baglung airport, now defunct, is located 12 km to the south of the town. Above the airport is the village of Rokas (rokapala/rokathar) and on the mountain lies the famous shrine of Lord Bhairav. Baglung has experienced a rapid expansion after the completion of Pokhara-Baglung Highway in the mid-90s. There is now a summer road that connects Baglung to Chaura—where the airport is located.
